But those who do appreciate this Air Jordan design are loyal to this shoe. Whether this mid-cut shoe with metallic ventilation is to your tastes or not, you can't deny that Mr. Hatfield did a far better job of channeling luxury car genetics into a shoe better than the monstrosities that real collaborations with car brands create (think Audi, adi and Kobe) when he used a Ferrari as inspiration for the fourteenth Jordan shoe. The model that ushered in the Jordan Brand as a Nike spinoff line, as worn in this colourway to win an NBA championship with a last minute shot (hence the "Last Shot" nickname) is a shoe like no other, taking some inspiration from its predecessor, but adding some unique touches that made it a performance favourite in the quest for support, responsiveness and lightness.
We last saw this black and red colourway in 2005, when it was released for the first time since 1999 (the Last Shot was — appropriately — one of the last Jordan original XIV colourway releases), but we've always found the XIV reissues to be a reliable facsimile of the originals. The lowkey flamboyance in the midsole, nubuck and fancy logo are all on point. There's a little bit more gloss to that leather compared to the '05s, but it looks deeply similar. The only key point of difference to keep the collectors hunting Instagram props happy is that grey 'XIV' inside the tongue rather than red, but that's strictly for the folk that know. These Air Jodan XIVs go on sale this Saturday. Those that know will be all over them while the rest of you lie in wait for the Concords to drop...
